TeleDICOM is an environment for collaborative and interactive work on medical documents. The idea of the system is to provide an easy but powerful way to exchange doctors' expert knowledge from any place where computer network is available.
The system offers specialized instruments, operating on multiframe medical images, such as distance and angle measurement, Hounsfield window adjustment. Their functionality is enhanced by integrated conferencing tools (interactive voice, text and pointer exchange) giving and impression of a real medical consultation session performed without forcing doctors to move from their workplace.
The system supports DICOM standard which offers diagnotic quality of patients' examinations as well as the full view of textual description recorded directly by medical devices. TeleDICOM provides also the calibration tool in order to measure temporal and spatial distances which facilitates interpretation of common raster images and video sequences (e.g. JPEG, GIF, AVI, etc.). This makes the application ready to support not only data produced by DICOM-compliant diagnostic devices but also a wide diversity of digital image sources such as scanners, digital cameras, etc.
The application may also play an important educational role allowing medicine students to observe on-line
medical consultations with no permission to interfere with the session.
The system is being developed in cooperation with John Paul 2nd hospital in Krakow.
TeleDICOM system functionality in a nutshell:
- synchronous and interactive work over medical documents using shared pointer, simple shapes and specialized tools,
- multiparty support,
- intergrated voice and chat tools,
- conformance to H.323 multimedia standard,
- operation in wireless networks.
Participants of a TeleDICOM session get a tool for:
- angle and distance measurement,
- Hounsfield window adjustment,
- intuitive zoom and pan,
- single- and multiframe DICOM images support,
- popular raster images manipulation (e.g. JPEG, GIF, AVI).
